Cottonwood is the largest cottage, with two pleasant bedrooms, an inviting living room, a classic kitchen/dining nook with dishwasher, a perky bathroom, and a laundry room/computer workspace. Lots of books if you feel like curling up on the couch or the Ekornes for a good read (on hand, the Flashman series (wish they taught history this way), Thursday Next series (beyond brilliant), lots of fiction, lots of nature guides, local history (native and otherwise), outdoor adventure. You won't miss the tube, but it's there, local stations anyway, and Netflix, BluRay DVDs -- watch Gunless, most delightful western ever, filmed right across the Canadian border. Enjoy games and jigsaw puzzles with friends or family. Feel free to put your sock feet on the coffee table. Ahhh. Put another trout on the barbie. Catch them, hefty Lahontan cutthroat, in nearby Omak Lake, or kayak in the sheltered bay of Beer Can Beach (dreadful and misleading name), best kept secret ever. (Note: Omak Lake currently closed because of COVID-19.) See lots more cottage photos, availability, guest guidelines, and rates on Airbnb.com. You'll feel like you're at home. Probably great grandma's home. Good memories, make some more.
The Green Room is big on chintz and an eclectic mix of vintage art (including unusual shell pictures, Japanese wood block prints, and landscapes that are figments of fine art imaginations). The classic metal-frame double bed sports cotton sheets, patchwork quilts, and a 12-inch memory foam mattress. A wonderful room to nod off in, even better to wake up in. This is the room the missus wants to sleep in.
The Blue Room is a little bit cowboy and a little bit nature lover. Drift off and wake up looking at one of the most beautiful scenes ever painted, of elk in a frosty field at dawn, by Nancy Glazier. My fave print of bobcats by Carl Brenders has pride of place in this room. There's even a real bird's nest from the side of the road on my 40 acres east of Tonasket. Antique iron bedframe with a very modern 12-inch memory foam mattress and the must-have cotton sheets and quilts. Nice collection of vintage kids books, and loads of action/suspense/mystery paperbacks.
Open space, yes, counter space, no. But the appliances are there, big fridge (with beer glasses in the freezer), big stove (pizza! local apple pie!), microwave, toaster, blender, food processor, rice cooker, fondue pot, crockpot, coffee maker, espresso machine, old-fashioned hand-cranked ice cream maker, waffle iron, fresh pasta machine, pots and casseroles, all kinds of vintage and modern kitchen gadgets in the Hoosier kitchen queen and every nook and cranny, and a nice old kitchen table to sit around. Eclectic depression glass to snack off of. Bendy straws. Chopsticks. And the egg beater collection to end all.
What can you do with a basic bathroom? Tart it up with tropical brightness and a cool blue chandelier. Sure, why not? Throw in some great vintage pix of cheesecake gals made modest by soap bubbles, and a small wooden secretary to add a bit of warmth to the storage situation, and there you have it. Oh, and put in a really good Toto toilet and a bottle of Poo-Pourri (along with Lumi deodorant the best two products of the 21st century to date) to make up for the total absence of a bathroom fan (but there is a dehumidifier).
Cottonwood Cottage is a comfortable two bedroom rental with a fun decor and many thoughtful touches. It was perfect for our visit to the area to see the Omak Stampede. We appreciated the 3 air conditioners and the coffee maker. There are many more kitchen gadgets available but we didn't do any cooking. Geralyne provided a wealth of information about the Stampede and Suicide race as it was our first time attending. She also made recommendations for mini road trips to the attractions in the surrounding area. We found the cottage to be a great value. --Kierke, August 2019
A wonderful place to stay in the Okanogan valley with great amenities and easy access. Geralyne is the most amazing host we have ever come across and she made us feel so welcome with her personal touch and an eye for the detail. --Abhijeet, March 2019
A great place to stay, restful, quiet, cozy. Spectacularly stocked! Great communication! Geralyne is a great host! Can't say enough good stuff about this place! --Ann, September 2018
The exterior belies the charm waiting inside. For those who appreciate vintage, Geralyne's place is a treasure and she has done a great job to make you feel at home, a little pampered, appreciative of the air conditioning on a hot day, and ready to hunker down and enjoy at good book or simply peruse her book shelves. --Becky, July 2018
We loved our stay! The cottage is very well kept and it can be seen that lot of thought has been put into everything Its very cozy! It had all we needed and infact much much more than that. We would have loved to stay more, but had to get back to hit road. There are 2 cute bedrooms so it was perfect for me, my husband and his parents. --Anuja, September 2017
